Spanish musician and composer based in Madrid and deeply involved in the city´s noise and experimental scene. Among his many projects he has been part of AU, an improvisation and random line up band that has come to share stage with groups such as Pan Sonic, Cluster, Sonic Youth, Lightning Bolt, Lydia Lunch or To Live & Shave in LA (Tom Smith) among others. He also has played drums in other bands sharing stage with people like Wolf Eyes, Sightings, Old Time Relijum, Gallon Drunk, ZZZ´s, Vessel, Blood Axis, Axolotl, Weyes Blood, Pharmakon, Felix Kubin, Death in June or Alexander Hacke (Einstürzende Neubauten)
He started his music career in the mid 90s playing guitar in several noise bands and projects, also collaborating with homemade noise generators in free jazz and electroacoustic ensembles. Last years he has been part of a multitude of projects, including Paseos Nocturnos, a free improvisation guitar duo with Fernando Junquera AKA Negro. Playing trumpet we´ve been able to listen to him in Ahno Drei, an extreme noise trio of metal winds. Playing guitar and singing in Plonk Moist or playing drums & trumpet in Ülpeskriva, both improvisation duos with RN Juristo, For Noise's Sake´s heart and soul (Compulsive record label based in Madrid with more than 100 references of noise and experimental music in general)
He has performed in a multitude of gigs and festivals including the “International Festival of Electroacustic Music” held at the Circulo de Bellas Artes in Madrid. Primavera Sound, three consecutive years performing as a part of GMW collective at the ARCO contemporary art fair in Madrid and has played live in art galleries opening exhibitions to artists like Marcelí Antúnez (La Fura dels Baus).
We´ve been seen Óscar being part of Indhecenter some years ago, a deformed noise duo with David Gómez (Krapoola) and more recently behind the drums of Sagrados Corazones, a no-wave band from Madrid. In his solo pop projects or making deranged techno in which he uses a synthesizer manufactured by himself. Parallel he has been claimed to do some videoclips for bands such as Betunizer, Carnisaur, Pier or Vacío perfecto in addition to making music clips for their own music or the bands to which he belongs.
He has collaborated with people like Adrián de Alfonso (Don the Tiger, Veracruz, Bestia Ferida), José Guerrero (Betunizer, Cuello, Jupiter Lion), Mario Zamora (Lüger, Melange), Enrique Borrajeros (Mercromina, Muchachada Nui), Banin y Florent (Los Pilotos, Los Planetas), Arnau Sala (Ozono Kids, Les Aus), Xisco Rojo or the sound artist Enrique Tomás.
He made “A tope siempre” soundtrack, miniserie devised by Wences Lamas and Javier Camino (Magnetova Productions) and has put his music for the three shorts belonging to “trilogy of laught” directed by the same authors.
During this last years, Óscar Barras has collaborated with his music for "Tiempos futuros" a peruvian science-fiction feature film directed by Victor Checa, making the soundtrack for “Uganda” documentary devised by Ana Rojas and creating the full soundtrack for "El campo", first feature film directed by Wences Lamas that was released in 2026.
Óscar Barras is finishing three new albums that will be out in 2026 supported by Mascarpone Discos and playing drums in Reserva Espiritual de Occidente.
